I just want to point out a very important benefit to having the HST that I don’t think many people have thought about: EVERYONE MUST PAY THE TAX. To me, this means that it is not just the middle income group supporting the province/nation. The gov’t does not need to legalize pot, “to get the tax benefit from it” (as some would like to reason for legalization)..growers and sellers (of all illegal activities) do not report an annual income, but they would now also have to pay full taxes on their purchases made with illegal money..and they can still be arrested and put away. People who hold ” tax free status” (yes, everyone who is applying, or has native status) now has to pay their share of taxes back into the economy, as they should have been doing all along anyway, ( I hate this separation of taxable/non taxable income, we are all canadian and we all benefit from the services available.), finally , those in high tax brackets that can defer their income taxes through various shelters, now have to anti-up and pay more for their luxuries…if you can afford a million dollar boat, you can afford the 12% hst, or stop sheltering your true income, and pay like the rest of us. Not only do I think the HST is good for BC, but I wish it were across Canada, so those people working in Fort Mac. buying big toys there to bring back to BC would also have to pay their fair share. Stop making the poor poorer, and stop expecting the middle class workers to pay for everyone else. In my opinion, the only people who should be protesting the HST is OMG’s and other Gangs, and Natives…the rest of the population, particularily Van Der Zalm, is blind to the benefits of HST and lowering Personal Income tax (PIT)..reduce the PIT so people can put food on the table.
